Elvira Garifzyanova was born into a musical family in Russia. Following completion of the vocational music school for highly gifted children at the conservatory in Kazan (Russia) and the State Conservatory of Kazan, Garifzyanova received two diplomas with distinction in piano (under Prof. Irina Dubinina) and composition (under Prof. Alexander Rudenko) before continuing her composition studies under Prof. Gerhard Müller-Hornbach in Frankfurt am Main in Germany and at the Zurich University of the Arts under Prof. Isabel Mundry.
She has won awards at various international competitions including first prize "del conkurso international de Composicion para organo "Catedral del Buen Pastor de Donostia San Sebastian" 2007 (Spain), third prize of the DAAD Competition 2004 (Germany), and winner of the Ensemble für Neue Musik Zürich 2007/08 award (Switzerland).
Elvira Garifzyanova has received the following stipends: DAAD Stipend, Mozart Foundation Stipend, Paul Sacher Stipend for Dissertation Research, "Cité Internationale des Arts" Stipend in Paris and the Darmstadt 2008 Internationalen Kursen für Neue Musik Stipend. Several of her activities have been recorded for Radio Bayern, Radio SWR (Germany) and Swiss Radio DRS-2. She has also attended master classes headed by Brian Ferneyhough, Hanz Zender and the workshops of André Richard (performance practice electronic music). She has collaborated with the chamber orchestra "La Primavera" Kazan, Mircea Ardeleanu, Hilliard-Ensemble (GB), Ensemble für Neue Music Zürich, the ensemble "Les Cornets Noirs", Zürcher Kantorei zu Predigern, Berner Kantorei, the Kleine Kantorei under the direction of Johannes Günther and the Musikkollegium Winterthur, as well as with Carin Levine (flute), Peter Veale (oboe) and Pascal Gallois (bassoon) in the first Aeolian Academy of Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland. Her collaboration also extended to the composition workshop of the SW Radio Stuttgart Symphony Orchestra (Germany). She has received commissions from the Hilliard-Ensemble (GB), Mircea Ardeleanu; from the Tonhalle-orchester Gesellschaft Zürich and the Gesellschaft für zeitgenössische Musik Frankfurt am Main. Her works have been performed at such festivals as the international new music festival "Sound ways" 2008 in St.-Petersburg and "Europa-Asia" in Kazan.
